View from the Stage Pictures of my Audiences - the Storyteller's-Eye View
October 26, 2009 - Thornton Historical Society, Thornton, IL
A return visit to my hometown, and what a good time I had! Very welcoming audience - and they even put out a sign for me. We shared two Poe pieces (for the 200th anniversary of his birth year, you know) - "Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven" - along with "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee" (wow, a lot of poems), and Lovecraft's "Cats of Ulthar" (a new one this year, that I'm telling a lot). Plus, two more modern pieces, "Shatter Proof" by Jack Ritchie, which I tell all the time - where a man tries to outwit his assassin - and, for the first time ever anywhere, a little tale of infidelity and murder called "Matinee," by Elaine Slater. (Don't worry, the kids were gone by then.) It went over well, I think I'll have to do that again sometime.
